12/06/2013 - Last year winner in Sardinia, third in the world standings with 61 points, Mikko Hirvonen really wants to run and make his best show in this edition of the Rally Italia Sardegna.
«I’m very glad to be back in Sardinia - said the 33-year-old Citroen driver – a course I like a lot which I won eventually last October, after five consecutive times finishing at the 2nd place.
This year the rally will be carried out in two legs only and we are going to have a more compact run; however our approach will be pretty much the same as for past editions and I expect no changes in my game plan. Furthermore the nighttime special stage comes as no surprise for any of us as we made it also last year.
I’ve always had a great feeling for driving Sardinian special stages which are much alike the ones in Argentina; I experienced them recently and felt very much at ease.
The roads of the island are slippery too and that requires more technical skills; you can, let’s say, drive not too clean and roll your car sideways but you better mind and be careful because in Sardinia any mistake may risk to be paid dearly.»
