OLBIA, 20/06/2013 - With this morning Shakedown and Qualifying stage the 2013 Rally Italia Sardegna is really getting started. Both were run over Monte Pinu gravels for 3,86 kms. The Finnish Jari Matti Lavala has been the quickest behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Polo R WRC timed at 3’12”665, exactly 69” quicker than Evgeny Novikov in his Ford Fiesta. The third position was earned by Sébastien Ogier with 1”57, with Hirvonen fourth at 1”74 and Neuville fifth in 1’84”.
The Geovillage Swimming Pool is hosting today at 13hrs the starting drivers selection while at 19hrs the ceremonial Start of the Rally is going to take place in Sassari at Piazza d’Italia. This day is going to be really very full of events: drivers’ start off will be given by the ACI President Sticchi Damiani and the FIA President Jean Todt, for the first time in Sardinia this year to attend the Rally Italia Sardegna.
Tomorrow the first leg will kick off along 147 timed kms with the opening special at Monte Lerno, the course will thereafter move to Sassari area where 2 passages will be run on both stages Tergu-Osilo and Castelsardo. A remote service is also going to be available in Sassari-Piazzale Segni, in the middle of the day; during the afternoon a second passage is due for the rally crews at Monte Lerno, while after the Service Park in Olbia, all drivers will make the timed Gallura stage which includes a last passage in the nightime.
