This first leg was full of unexpected outcomes at the Rally Italia Sardegna. The reigning leader of the day was Sébastien Ogier behind the wheel of his VW Polo R Wrc, advantaged by his team-mate, the Finnish Jari-Matti Latvala first and then the young Russian Evgeny Novikov (Ford Fiesta Wrc) together with Mads Ostberg (Ford Fiesta Wrc) from Norway. Latvala punture a front left tyre immediately after the first special stage of Monte Lerno dropping 1’56” and all will to fight for the finals. It was the turn of the young Russian to lose control of his Ford Fiesta Wrc, upon the second stage, when he rolled it just 200 hundred mt after Castelsardo special stage. Finally it was Ostberg, while at his fourth position, to roll his car over the last “Gallura” Stage, run at night. Ogier earned, with Latvala, six out of eight special stages, as a clear evidence of the leading role of Volkswagen, while the other two trials were all by Neuville (Ford Fiesta Wrc). Among the Wrc 2 past F1 driver Robert Kubica gained all the scheduled stages except the third one, despite his spin off upon the third special causing damages to the rear of his Citroen Ds3 Regional rally car. Tomorrow the final day with feature the classical leg of Monte Acuto, with eight specials (four runs repeated twice), and namely the Monte Olia, Terranova, Monti di Alà and Coi luna. The contest will finish at the Molo Brin in Olbia at 19h15. Hereater the 1st Day standings: 1. Ogier-Ingrassia (VW Polo R Wrc) with 1.40’47”3; 2. Hirvonen-Lehtinen (Citroen Ds3 Wrc) in 46”6; 3. Neuville-Gilsoul (Ford Fiesta Wrc) with 49”7; 4. Sordo-Del Barrio (Citroen Ds3 Wrc) with 1’19”4; 5 and Latvala-Anttila in 1’44”0.

OGIER CLOSES LEADING THE FIRST LEG
 

A great start for the Volkswagen Polo R Wrc driver leading the rally before Citroen Ds3 Wrc with Mikko Hirvonen. Latvala was late after a puncture over the first stage. Fermi Novikov and Ostberg halted after they went off the road at the second and eight stage respectively.
