OLBIA – After an emotional second leg the Rally Italia Sardegna 2013 got to the end this evening with Sébastien Ogier and his VW Polo R Wrc triumph. The French driver has been leading the run since the first metre ending up his course not hindered by the thrilling performance of Thierry Neuville on a Ford Fiesta Wrc by MSport and his team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala. The day 2 of the rally has marked the Team Citroen “débacle” with Mikko Hirvonen who, despite already heading to the second position after gaining the first Special Monte Olia, went off the road in the morning and draw his car to a definite halt upon the second Terranova run. Thus Ogier gained control of the leg from start to end while Citroens continued to be affected by an unfortunate session with Sordo spinning over the third special stage, dropping 20” and handing the third placement over to Latvala who kept it hard until the finish. The Czech Prokop (Ford Fiesta Wrc) closed fifth before the young Welsh, Evans, co-driven by our Giovanni Bernacchini and at his first experience on a Ford Fiesta Wrc by MSport. To be reported, Mikkelsen draw back after getting the third VW Polo Wrc off the road upon the fourteenth stage, closing a day tussle with Sordo for the fourth absolute. Among the Wrc 2, the past Formula One driver Robert Kubica has been reigning behind the wheel of his Citroen Ds3 Regional rally car increasing ahead over the Qatar driver Al-Kuwari and the Italian Lorenzo Bertelli (both on a Ford Fiesta Rrc). The Pole driver also closed ninth absolute of the standings earning his first two world points. The German Riedemann managed the Wrc 3 while Giuseppe Dettori (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9), among the Sardinian drivers, confirmed control of the game thanks to Francesco Marrone draw back upon the last special.
